Kelly Scroggins- Powell
Kelly Scroggins-Powell, has been a leader in the non-profit sector for more than 30 years. As an experienced leader she empowers teams to achieve their greatest capacity through collective leadership, strategic planning, and mission aligned actions. Her vast experience in the area of equity, diversity and inclusion with public/private entities has afforded her the opportunity to work with individuals and families from diverse socio-economic backgrounds across America.
She is a staunch proponent for justice and is well known for her activism and advocacy for women and BIPOC (Black Indigenous People of Color). In 2020, she co-founded Racine Women for Racial Justice. It is in this role as the Co-founding President she married her life’s purpose of empowering women to her passion for a just and equitable society by encouraging women to raise their voices and use their collective power to bring racial healing and transformative change.
As the new Executive Director of Racine Women for Racial Justice, Inc. she leads the organization’s efforts to dismantle systemic racism in Racine by providing collective leadership opportunities for women through civic engagement and anti-racist initiatives, to elevate the voices of Women of Color, and to strengthen relationships with allies, stakeholders, and community partners.
As a successful entrepreneur, she provides business consulting services to a diverse client base and is responsible for the start-up of many thriving local and national businesses and non-profit organizations.
Tammie Xiong
Tammie Xiong (pronouns: she/her/hers) currently serves as the Executive Director for the Hmong American Women’s Association (HAWA), in Milwaukee, WI, a grassroots social justice organization led by Southeast Asian Women and Queer Fem women that is dedicated to ending gender-based violence against Southeast Asian Women, Girls, Queer and Trans folks. Through her leadership at HAWA, her intersectional work around gender and race has led to not only securing resources and advocacy services for Southeast Asian survivors of violence, but also community organizing to build political and economic power for Black and Brown communities in Milwaukee so folks are able to live in thriving and safe communities.
Xiong has dedicated over 14 years to providing gender justice advocacy and leadership development for Southeast Asian women and girls in Milwaukee and has organized national and international movements to end violence against Hmong Women, Girls, Queer and Trans folks through the Building our Future global campaign.
She is the co-founder of the WI Hmong Women’s Giving Circle, a philanthropic project to raise funds to support Hmong women-led social change projects in WI, and the co-founder and board member for the WI Black and Brown Womyn Power Coalition.
Tammie has served in multiple leadership roles, some of which include being a member of the WI Governor’s Council on Domestic Abuse, commissioner on the City of Milwaukee Commission for Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, member and partner of the We Are Here MKE campaign, board member for the Milwaukee Public Schools Foundation, and a member of the World Economic Forum’s Milwaukee Global Shapers group.
Tammie is deeply passionate about building fierce, unapologetic, engaged, socially conscious Southeast Asian Women that will use their gifts, and exercise their power to impact the world.
She holds a Bachelors of Arts in English/Creative Writing from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a Masters of Science in Administrative Leadership with Emphasis in Adult Education at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
