About Conversations on Race Fall 2020 Virtual Six-Part Series

Eliminating racism is an ongoing process that involves a willingness to learn about, and begin, undoing, the adverse impact of racism on individuals, organizations, and communities.

In the wake of George Floyd’s death, all of us are considering what we can do to change systemic racism.  This five-part series will help you discuss and break down racial bias. This is an opportunity to learn about the history and impact of racism and what you can do about it.

Our courses are predominantly white people. Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) are welcomed and wanted. All participants are encouraged to reflect upon and share their lived experiences on race and racism. Often this topic assumes BIPOC’s will teach on this topic. That is not the case here. That is the role of the facilitators.

Each two-hour session will allow time for content review (video clips, reflection questions) along with listening pairs, breakout rooms and full group discussions.

October 7              Manifestations of Racism

October 14            On Whiteness

October 21            Addressing Race and Racism Daily

October 28            Wrap up

In order to address racism, in all the places where we witness its oppressive power, we need people who understand it, can address it and challenge it.

We will end racism when more people, particularly white people, understand the importance of taking action to intervene and change racialized outcomes impacting people of color in work, personal and structural settings.
