An Evening to Promote Racial Justice Awards

Please submit no later than Monday, October 14, 2019 at Noon.

Each year at our signature event, we highlight two individuals who embody the passion it requires to push the needle in Racial Justice and Women Empowerment work in Southeast Wisconsin.

Nominations: Please be thorough and detailed in your response. The selection committee may not know your candidate well enough to evaluate them if your responses are not thorough.

Restrictions: No group or self-nominations.

All honorees will be recognized at An Evening to Promote Racial Justice on Tuesday, December 3, 2019. The program will be held at Marcus Center for the Performing Arts-Bradley Pavilion from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Keynote Speaker: Maria Hinojosa, Award-winning journalist
Topic: “Immigration and the Impact on Women & Families of Color”

The awards and the criteria are as follows:

Eliminating Racism Award

This award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated a commitment to eliminating racism in Southeast Wisconsin through their volunteer or paid work. advocacy, and leadership. 

Past Award Recipients: Monique Liston (2017), Fran Kaplan (2016), Reggie Jackson (2015), Bryan Massingale (2014), Emilio DeTorre (2013), Mary Mazul (2012),  Nacarci Feaster (2011), Bob Peterson (2010), The Women’s Fund (2009),  Joan Kessler (2008), John Fitzgerald (2007), Reggie Moore (2006), Marty Stein (2005).

The selection committee will review candidates on the following criteria:

  • How the candidate advances knowledge, perspective and awareness of the impact of race and racism in a variety of ways.
  • How the candidate advocates publicly and in personal circles supporting an understanding of racial justice issues/concerns (in the community, work or personal settings).
  • How the candidate works to eliminate discriminatory institutional barriers to people of color’s contribution to the workplace and/or community.
  • How the candidate invests time, talent, and treasure in building a world of racial justice & equity.

Empowering Women Award

This award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated a commitment to empowering women in Southeast Wisconsin through their volunteer or paid work, advocacy, and leadership.

The selection committee will review candidates on the following criteria:

  • How the individual advocates publicly and supports women’s causes. Is the candidate passionate and proactive in their support?
  • How the candidate advances development of women using their personal power and influence.
  • How the candidate eliminates discriminatory barriers to women’s success.
  • How the candidate invests their time, talent and treasure in causes that make a positive impact on women.
