Dear Builders of a Just Community,
This is a simple, public thank you note – to the staff of YWCA Southeast Wisconsin.
To say 2020 has not turned out to be the year any of us saw coming is not just an understatement – it is an absurd statement. And, it is only August.
Yet, our staff has not missed a beat. They have focused on both the individuals we serve and the community as a whole, moving programming to virtual platforms, introducing new services, raising their voices as advocates, and taking care of each other and their families.
They have embodied resiliency and resolve in the face of grief because of COVID-19, anxiety because of economic upheaval, and zealous determination because the scourge of racism has plagued each and every one of us for too long.
And, I suspect you have been called to be resilient and resolute in your life, too. But, in spite of what 2020 has thrown at us so far (and because of that), we have all chosen to stay connected, to commit to community, no matter what.
I believe there is no better time to be part of YWCA Southeast Wisconsin’s community. Just like you, we get up every day, day after day, and do the work needed to transform our region, to transform all of our lives. The big things get headlines and social media attention. But it is this every day work that makes solidarity genuine, that builds the future. At YWCA SEW, we believe in the power of consistency.
I hope you’ll join me in saying thank you to our staff. I invite you to send them a shout out on our Facebook page or a message at communication@ywcasew.org.
And, I thank you, too – for being part of our community. As I’ve said many times, community is defined by the values that bind us together as we build a more just future.
Forward,
President and CEO
